What I am Loving – August 2018

1. Santa Clarita Diet (and subsequently, Roku Stick)

My husband and I are always looking for new shows to watch outside of our regular DVRd shows. We recently bought a Roku Streaming Stick + so we didn’t need to move our smart tv and hook it up directly to our router. I was instantly obsessed. It is extremely easy to use as far as the remote and interface go and takes only a few minutes to set up. I have had a running list of shows that I want to watch on Netflix so after some consideration, we decided to watch Santa Clarita Diet. We had no expectations and really didn’t know anything about the background or storyline of the series. At the of the first episode, we looked at each other and said, “uhhhh I definitely wasn’t expecting that.” The storyline was completely out of left field but in a good way. We have since watched both seasons and despite being very cheesy at times, it is a good, funny cheesy. We love the innocent banter back and forth between the main characters (I’ve looked at my husband and said ‘that is totally something I would do to you’ and the dry humor throughout. Season 3 comes out in 2019!

2. Starbucks Chilled Espresso Beverage

I am one of those people that uses a regular coffee pot. We used to have a Keurig but even after following the official cleaning steps with the official Keurig solution, my coffee still tasted funny. Because of that and wanting to save money, I made the decision to go back to an original coffee maker. However, I do not love cleaning the coffee pot and filter every morning, and I also wanted something for those days when I am dragging right around 2pm. I picked up a jug of the Starbucks Caramel Macchiato Chilled Espresso beverage during my weekly grocery shopping trip. I figured it would be perfect for afternoons when I need a pick me up but don’t want to go through the hassle of making a cup in the coffee maker (then having to clean it up). And since it was chilled, I figured it would be perfect for the hot and humid NC afternoons. I was right. It is the perfect flavor and tastes exactly how it would when I go to Starbucks and buy one, except I am getting a whole jug of it for the price of the drive-thru! It comes in a couple different flavors but I am a sucker for anything caramel so it is currently my go-to.

3. Shark ION Rocket IR101

Having two big dogs and a toddler brings a lot of dirt into my house. We are constantly in and out and of course, every time my dogs go outside they insist on running through the dirt. Along with the dirt they also shed like there has never been anything cooler in life. I know this isn’t on purpose but if I had known we would have a tan colored dog when we put in our dark hardwood floors, I would have gone with a lighter floor. I have had my Shark ION Rocket for about five months now and I don’t think I have ever used anything so much in my life. I find myself vacuuming at least twice a day. It is extremely powerful, lightweight, and keeps a decent charge. It also has headlights so you can see underneath couches, chairs, and tables while sucking up the dirt. When I am not using it I store it in our laundry room on the charger. I love this cordless vacuum because not only does it do outstanding on hardwood and tile floors, it can also be used on carpets. It is perfect for our stairs. The handle also detaches and I take it out to vacuum up my son’s car seat when needed.

4. Book Choice: Behind Closed Doors

When spring and summer roll around I find myself reading a lot more. There is something so enjoyable about sitting out on my back deck with a cold glass of water, propping my feet up and reading. I have read quite a few books over the past few months but my front runner is Behind Closed Doors by B. A. Paris. It was suspenseful, thrilling, and kept me on the edge of my seat. It was so addictive that I finished it in three nights. Not wanting to give anything away, all I can say is that the entire time I was reading it I wanted to jump into the book and help! If you need a quick and easy beach or pool read this summer, I would recommend this one before anything else.

5. Everything Nutella

I could put Nutella on this list no matter what month it is. My snack of choice is Nutella and berries. I had Nutella for the first time when I studied abroad in Paris during college and never looked back. I find myself craving this at night when I get the night-time munchies. So, instead of grabbing something unhealthy like chips, I slice up some strawberries, blackberries, bananas, blueberries, and peaches (or any combo of the five, depending on what we have at the house). I add some Nutella to my plate and have a delicious snack that I really do not feel guilty about eating since it is mostly fruit!
