The thing I love most about October is not something you can buy or hold in your hands.
It is something that is free for everyone to enjoy however they wish.
Did you guess it yet?
this weather! I simply cannot get enough of it. Whether my son and I are collecting leaves and acorns in a bucket, going to local fall festivals or taking a bike ride up to our neighborhood pond to feed the fish, this crisp fall weather has us spending as much time as possible outside. I could keep going on and on but I won’t bore you with all the reasons I love this fall sweater weather and how it makes me beyond happy.
Instead, I will share a few things I am loving this month!
A New Day
One of Target’s newest brands, A New Day, has brought me some new go-to pieces for my fall wardrobe. I discovered their short sleeve t-shirts this summer; they are silly soft and come in a variety of colors. I went back a couple weeks ago once their fall items were out and found a couple of new staples. The price tag is extremely affordable and despite coming from Target, I feel like I am wearing a high-end brand.
The cozy knit top I have in two different colors while the henley I have in white looks great with a pair of jeans, brown boots, and a green bomber jacket. The red pleated skirt is perfect for the holidays, whether it be a party of family photos. The cardigan, which I purchased in grey, is my new go-to sweater for leggings and a white tee underneath. Which is basically my everyday outfit in the fall.

Goodreads
A fellow mom who also loves reading introduced me to Goodreads. I had never heard of it until we discussed starting a moms monthly book club. She asked me if I was tracking my books and I had instant regret once she told me about this app. For years I had wanted a place to keep track of all the books I have read without having to write it down on a piece of paper. This is where Goodreads has taken over. You can add books you have read in the past, make a list of books you want to read and then mark them as read once you have completed them. You can also connect with friends to see what they have read and what they recommend. The app will also give you recommendations based on books you have read. And the best part is that it is completely free! You can even hook your Amazon account to it and add books that way. If you are an avid reader like me, make sure to download this app stat!
Karin Slaughter
Thanks to the recommendation from a friend I discovered a new author whose books I love; I have read two within two weeks and already have another on hold from the library. Karin Slaughter is a mystery/crime/thriller writer and despite her being a bit more aggressive with the extreme detail she uses when it comes to the real-life situations in her novels which sometimes makes me squeamish, I cannot put them down. So far I have read The Good Daughter and Pretty Girls. Next on my list is Pieces of Her and Blindsighted, which was her first novel and made the 2001 Crime Writers’ Association’s Dagger Award shortlist for “Best Thriller Debut.” I recently recommended her to a friend and she pointed out that Slaughter couldn’t really be her real last name given the types of books she writes. I was inclined to agree since it seemed too good to be true, but it is true; Slaughter is her real name. How perfectly perfect!
